Probably not so much, but it’s still a great app because it can restart interrupted downloads and integrate into a large number of browsers, including Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome and Opera.

You won’t find the installation process more difficult than eating a cake, which in most cases is pleasant too, as you have nothing to do than to press next and pick the installation folder.

Internet Download Manager’s interface is clean and easy to use, with big and stylish buttons that let you control the files you’re downloading. It is a great organizer too, as every single download can be be moved into a different folder, depending on its type. Plus, it has a rich settings menu where you can change the way the program handles certain file formats or the default download locations.

Avast! Free Antivirus 6.0.1367 if one of the big guys in the free antivirus market, and some people even claim it has the ability to fight with the leaders of the crowd which usually come with a fairly high price.

This new version of Avast comes with a fresh interface that makes it a lot easier to work with, as all its functions are now clearly displayed right in the front window.

Although it’s an antivirus solution and this type of applications is often addressed to power users, Avast can be installed very easily.

During our test however we had to spend a few seconds on a screen that has nothing to do with Avast, as the installer attempted to copy Google’s browser, Chrome, on our computer. This is also the main reason why Avast is flagged as ad-supported here on Softpedia.

Anyway, once installed, Avast works simply great, with virus definitions updated even several times a day.

The scanning process is very fast and is quite light on hardware resources, but it all depends on the computer and the files you’re about to scan. We however were pretty satisfied with the way it worked, although sometimes we were a bit annoyed by the boot-time scanner.

The boot scanner is actually a very nice function because it attempts to scan the computer before the operating system is fully loaded and thus before any virus is ready to take control of certain system files.

In addition, Avast can protect the email client as well, browser, instant messengers, games and basically every single application that’s installed or about to be installed.

All in all, Avast is a must have if you’re looking for a freeware antivirus solution and, as far we’re concerned, this application is indeed a tough challenge for the giants of this particular category.

Nevertheless, those who still want to enjoy Nero’s powerful features, but without paying that much for a license, can use Nero 9 Free, a freeware version of the tool that lacks some of the tools included in the full suite.

Installation shouldn’t be too difficult if you skip the part when you’re asked whether to install the Ask Toolbar or not, but we must warn that it could take a while until all files are successfully copied on the computer.

Nero isn’t delivered in a very light package, but this is kind of obvious since it has to comprise so many advanced features.

As always, using the software depends on how fast you get used to it. Still, if you’ve used Nero in the past, everything is piece of cake. It has a pleasant and clean interface, with the main functions displayed at the top of the main window on tabs.

Nero is still a great product when it comes to burning data on CDs and DVDs, so doing this is actually a baby’s job.

Just pick the files you want to copy on a disc, make the final adjustments, such as burning speed and disc name, and you’re ready to go.

Overall, it is a good thing to see Nero finally available with a free license, but keep in mind that this package only comes with the basic features. If you still dream about all the other tools included in Nero’s suite, you should probably have a look at the more expensive package.
